Not one for me, only really interested in more modern era (ideally 80s-90s, Gulf War tech, no BS gadgets like pocket drones, Wall-Es, magic bulletproof forcefields etc) but i'll try the open beta.

The only thing its hopefully got going for it is more dependence upon infantry combat, and presumably minimal air support. The blimps strike me as being like the AC-130 where its an occasional thing, than 4 of them. The air combat seems like it'd be harder to slaughter infantry like the scout & attack choppers do, and that dual seater plane with the rearward gunner seems like it'd be hard to bother infantry and more useful for airspace superiority.

Hopefully in the next couple of days we'll hear more about how the actual gameplay works in that respect. So far though, its 2 BF failures in a row for me, and a 3rd on its way.

Air to ground was in its infancy in those days meaning bombing from two seater planes was done manually...ie hand dropping bombs on to the battlefield lol. Planes were mostly used for air to air combat, scouting and some bombing but all in all i think air to air may be more interresting in BF1 than it has been from BF2 and up with slower speeds and rear gunner etc...kind of interested to see what thats going to be like :) (says the man who doesnt fly)

Yeah, hopefully most of the aerial combat will be with other aerial targets. Im sure Jack mentioned anti-air placements, i miss those from BF2 on maps like Wake Island, they used to be the best way to deal with a side which had capable pilots (or in some cases, the only side using them) but you were also a sitting duck to infantry and pilots once they got the warning, in BF4 theres pretty much fuck all you can do about them as infantry. Rockets are for tanks & idle heli's, the jets would either bugger off before you'd get a lock, or they'd just flare and ditch them that way.
Heli's just seemed more likely to be able to pass behind some scenery and drop the lock before it was acquired, unless you were out in the open and just asking to be sniped. So point & shoot RPGs were the most useful/sensible weapon, at least with AA placements anyone could try and deal with a pesky pilot, without suffering in their loadout.

At least in the future we've got Battlefield 2 to look forward to again

As far as i understand it there will be/ there are AA placements and those are machineguns. The planes of the aera were made of a light wooden frame and paper thin cloth so shooting them down ought to be a lot of fun :)
lol @ BF 2

Following the new footage, incl 3x 15-20min games, both Viper & myself have pre-ordered. Its £30 on Kinguin, but i'd expect it to start creeping up to about £35 before release.

It actually looks very good. Tanks dont seem so tough, the planes should pester vehicles but i doubt they'd be too annoying to soldiers, and theres no heli's to dominate the air and piss off anyone on foot. So i think the game should be more infantry friendly. The level design seems decent too, perhaps its because we've skipped Hardline & Battlefront so the last few years of incremental improvements, but there does seem to be a decent step forward with destruction, things like the airship being destroyed and crashing below where it was flying over and leaving its carcase to create a different obstacle to overcome.

Probably still get pissed off with it, but it looks impressive.

Just found a video of the gameplay footage...

Well it looks a lot of fun so I will definitely be purchasing...the air battles in bf1943 were very nice also so I would expect these to be similar. Tanks look tough with the right players in them ;)

not quite sure about the use of stoned celebs though  would not be so bad if any of them had some kind of ability :D

Game looks a lot better through the eyes of those players who can actually play the game, so am looking forward to the individual footage.

Can't wait for the beta

I think I will be pre-ordering too. Is it worth getting the deluxe version? Crazy discount on Kinguin.

I wish there were more stoned celebs playing battlefield when I'm on, then I might score a bit higher!
I hate the way bf3/4 the jets are impossible to shoot down by infantry yet could be picked off. Jets not being able to see individual spotted infantry would fix it. Hopefully, there will be a bit of balance in BF1. No matter, they're going to get my money. :?
