I think I know a few of you guys. PaulC2K aka-Paulie Walnuts aka-Paulie aka-Qazwert aka-Mistah Chaptastic (just made that last one up) rings a bell.

The Name is Nick, used to go by the name "slocus" in a former LFS life.

Just checking in to say hi, so "hi!" :D

Erratic69 eh? That is such a name Viper would pick... Same old Viper. You must forgive me if I only call you Viper.

Slopoke

Great to hear from you, hows things going?

You're completely forgiven for sticking with 'Viper', cos i dont think ive ever once called him Erratic :D and he's probably been going by that name for about 8yrs now. Pecker is here too (rc10racer), not that he bothers visiting, and he's the only one that still occasionally plays LFS (or anything racing related these days).

How did you manage to find us? We've only gone back to using the Mercury name about 18mo ago, and the current logo happens to be a variation of one you came up with years back (Jan 2007, apparently) when we were looking to redo the logos & skins

edit - Much nicer with a set of wings attached ;)

Paulie!

I love the Mercury Rising logo!

I still boot up LFS every once in a while but it just isn't the same. I miss the glory days of S1 and "twoying" around with all you guys. I mostly stick to the demo and try to find a non turbo server but haven't played in a while.

Viper found me on Instagram somehow... (how did you manage that Viper?) I had been trying to find you guys from the LFS forum through old threads but I had long forgotten my login for B00st or Slocus or whichever name I used. I emailed the [email protected] in a last ditch effort but no avail.

Viper is trying to convince me to sink my lifes savings into Star Citizen now... :$

I may have forced that avatar upon him ;)
Weird that Instagram did that, must be some past link or something it knows about.

Nick - Life savings isnt enough, sell all your earthly possessions and come join us in the SC cult, erm community...

I dunno how much Viper has mentioned about it, or what you've seen yourself, but its pretty amazing stuff, generation defining in gaming terms... if they can pull it all together and whatnot, because they really are working at a level that developers simply dont bother attempting any more, they're all taking baby-steps and a game-selling feature that might make a game stand out above others, SC is doing far more meaningfully, and its doing a dozen other things too. Publishers dont like innovation, they like predictable & proven, so we get recycled games.

SC is basically working without a publisher, funded by fans (we hit $130m raised a few hours ago), and they're making the best game that technology allows, and a fair amount of that involves going into unexplored territory to overcome current limitations. They're also doing it pretty publicly, with monthly reports of progress, a weekly 30min video showing new stuff (~90min of video uploaded to YT each week), and they actually communicate openly with the community. When they present things, its done live, they dont do trailers or pre-recorded footage. Its really refreshing.

For me, its something i want to support, and i feel it deserves every opportunity to try and succeed. This is how i want games to be built, with depth and a real effort to push the boundaries, rather than following a crowd just because its safe. My favourite example of depth in SC is one of the lesser careers - public transportation, space planes basically, and one of the many jobs you can do in order to operate a successful service and attract higher paying customers, is being a trolly-dolly! Taking passengers drinks orders, mixing them, and having them delivered to them. Whether or not you want to be a trolly-dolly in your spare time isnt important, its the very fact that they're looking at something that could have been as mundane as this, essentially herding cattle from A to B, and they've broke it down into a few smaller jobs or 'mini-games' to make it interesting. Without knowing what they have in mind for exploration, salvage, science etc, you get a good idea that it wont be pressing 'E' every 10sec because a prompt asks you to. Its not going to be a game built for combat with the rest tacked on, they want every aspect to be interesting and meaningful if thats what you want to do.

Hopefully i'll be on Discord tonight and can give you the full sales-pitch, but thats kinda the backdrop information about the developers and the scope, as the game itself i dunno what Viper has mentioned and it'd be a bloody long post if i even attempted to cover a fraction of what they've done already :D
